About Leo Wong
I'm Leo Wong, the founder of BornTea. My family comes from Yunnan — the province where tea was born — and from Fujian, China's white tea and oolong heartland. I grew up in Hong Kong, where tea isn't a hobby, it's furniture: the pot on every dim sum table, the tin in every kitchen.
BornTea exists because of a simple frustration. The teas I grew up drinking rarely make it overseas intact — they pass through so many middlemen that what arrives is stale, overpriced, or simply not what it claims to be. So I went back and did it the direct way: I've traveled through 14 of China's tea-producing provinces, sat at farmers' tables, and sourced every tea we sell in person, from people I know by name. I speak the local dialects, which matters more in tea buying than any certificate.
What I stand behind:
- Farm-direct sourcing. Every tea ships from its origin with no middlemen — that's why the pricing stays honest.
- Independent lab testing. Every batch passes Triple Toxin Screening by third-party labs, verified free of pesticides and heavy metals, before it reaches you.
- Packaging the Earth can digest. Corn-fiber sachets and cornstarch boxes, not plastic.
I write every article on the BornTea blog myself — brewing guides, honest comparisons, and stories from the farms and from growing up around this culture. If you have a tea question, write to me. I answer these personally.
